We are excited to host 2 workshops about Etel Adnan's immense body of work which spanned spanned literature, poetry, and visual arts. Born 100 years ago, Etel Adnan, Lebanese-American artist is celebrated this month in New York in several places and we are happy to share her approach on life and art through these 2 family art workshops with our community here in Greenpoint.

The workshops are both led by artists.

Ink on Paper – with Nedda Atassi  – 10AM-12PM

Etel Adnan created her first paintings spontaneously by applying blocks of color to the canvas with a palette knife—a practice she continued with remarkable consistency for decades. Eventually, she turned to ink, capturing in sparse gestures the symbols, objects, and beloved landscapes that shaped her life.
Though these works were mostly limited to black and white, they vibrate with her same characteristic spirit of immediacy and joy.

We will explore Adnan’s still life works on paper, drawing with sumi ink in a series of exercises inspired by the objects in our built environment.
Please wear clothes that can be stained :)

    Colors – with Sam Sundos  – 2-4PM

Join us for the second workshop which explores the colorful aspect of Etel Adnan's work.

Kids will learn about her colorful childhood in Beirut and how she became known for her vibrant landscapes.
Through a hands-on activity, children will create their own landscapes using colored construction paper and glue, inspired by Etel's bold colors.
Our goal is to help them see a world full of beauty and possibilities, just like Etel's art!
