10×10 Salons are a great way to get together with those who share your love for photobooks! Informal get-togethers with presentations by visiting photobook dignitaries, the salons are ongoing events that meet at various locations throughout NYC.
Each salon lasted approximately 40-55 minutes and allowed for comments and questions.
Marwan Bassiouni is a Swiss, Egyptian, and American photographer whose work explores cultural identity, migration and representation through landscape photography. His carefully composed images merge Western landscapes with architectural elements of mosques, inviting reflection on spirituality, multiculturalism and belonging.
His photobooks New Dutch Views (2019) and New Swiss Views (2024) offer meditative explorations of landscape and identity. New Dutch Views was a finalist for the Aperture First Book Award at Paris Photo. His photography has been featured in Artforum, The New Yorker, The British Journal of Photography, Aperture and FOAM.
Bassiouni has received numerous awards, including the W. Eugene Smith Student Grant, the Harry Pennings Prize and the Prix Circulation(s)-Fujifilm. His work continues to be supported by the Mondriaan Fund.
10×10 Photobooks is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization with the mission to foster engagement with the global photobook community through an appreciation, dissemination and understanding of photobooks. Founded in 2012, 10×10 offers an ongoing multi-platform series of public photobook events, including reading rooms, salons, publications, online discussions and partnerships with arts organizations and institutions. 10×10 also provides annual research grants on under-explored topics in photobook history.
