Hajar Hussaini is a poet and translator. Hussaini’s first poetry collection is Disbound (University of Iowa Press, 2022), and her first translation is the novel Death and His Brother by Khosraw Mani, forthcoming with Syracuse University Press in 2025. Her long titular poem is available through Daedalus, the open-access journal of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and her poetic statement is available through the Poetry Foundation. Her translations of contemporary Afghan literature have been published or are forthcoming in the Academy of American Poets' Poem-a-Day, Annulet, Asymptote, and Los Angeles Review. A graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, she is a visiting assistant professor of English at Skidmore College.
