Conversations over a meal, or about a meal, can ignite all sorts of debates on everything from health, the invocation of gendered roles, appetites, bodies, sustenance, eating disorders, to farming, labor, politics, appropriation, erasure, resistance, and the future.

Issue #2 | Land and Body
Historically subjected to land theft, forced migration, and displacement, the question of land and belonging blends with the daily life of the Arab people, as well as other populations who have likewise suffered the impact of colonization.
What complexity does this question carry in relation to gender, migration, land sovereignty, livelihood, and being?
In the second issue of Al Hayya, we attempt to tackle the intersection between the individual’s body and that of the land that carries it.
Contributors reflect on the multiplicity of relations to lands, shifting borders, and restrictions of public space.
