Feb 6 • Soma Soma Soma #4
This session's question
How can we practice radical care in a time of polycrisis?
Join us for SOMA SOMA SOMA, a new series of workshops that explore what somatic practices are and why practicing them together is so powerful. Each session will feature a guest co-facilitator, bringing fresh perspectives as we discover how working with the body and mind helps us connect, heal, and grow as a collective.
Somatics is about our ability to be present with sensations and emotions by building tolerance for what we feel. It helps us become aware of our current practices and learn new ones that align with our values and who we want to become. Définition inspired by Stacy K Haines, in “Politics of Trauma”
Katherine Toukhy is an artist/somatic practitioner who combines meditation, movement, and art with skillful curiosity and care. These days, this has meant developing practices to move with grief rather than against or despite it. She draws upon her lived experiences as a Coptic Egyptian woman born in unceded Lenapehoking, a long legacy of thinkers and healers, and over a decade of work experience in the visual arts and facilitation.
Emily Thulier is committed to helping individuals (re)connect with their capacity to feel whole. She believes therapy is a collaborative process and is therefore dedicated to creating a safe space that empowers you to imagine new and healthier ways of being. She is also part of the collective NYC-Palestine
Amélie Gaulier is a somatic movement therapist, performance artist, and community organizer dedicated to guiding people in remembering the power of body-wisdom, collective decolonial repair, and radical imagination. She trusts the interconnected intelligence of our ancient bodies to heal and transform through deep listening and uncovering their stories. Of french and mediterranean white-bodied descent, she is based in Brooklyn, NY, on unceded Canarsie land, and involved in Abolition Solidarity NYC and NYC to Palestine, challenging global systems of oppression.
