JUNE 15 • COLLAGES A LA SALOUA with Nedda Atassi

Saloua Raouda Choucair (1916-2017) was a Lebanese artist whose mixed media practice spanned painting, sculpture, drawing, and design. She synthesized early Islamic influences with the principles of modern abstraction, creating work that was at once architectural and poetic, universal and distinctly Arab. In this exploratory workshop, we will make paper and cardboard collages inspired by the motifs of Choucair’s oil paintings, playing with color, line, form, and texture to create our own unique compositions.

Nedda Atassi is a Syrian-American ceramic artist and educator living in New York City. In her practice she creates functional organic forms that reference nature, material culture, and the metaphors that emerge in the making process.
