July 7 • Arabic Lettering Workshop #19 with Wael Morcos

Join us for episode#19 of the Arabic Lettering Workshop at Storm Book Store, titled “Saloua,” where we will delve into the sculptural works of Lebanese artist Saloua Raouda Choucair and explore creative ways to interpret her art through Arabic calligraphy.
The participants will explore and decode selective words, their meaning and their structures and be guided to creatively re-interpret them.
No previous experience in Arabic lettering is necessary, and beginners are welcomed to join in this day of drawing, and design! Through the process, the participants will learn about the main parameters that define the Arabic script and letterforms to explore the different results that can be generated.
The Arabic Lettering Workshop is a series of workshops about Arabic lettering started by Khajag Apelian, Wael Morcos and Kristyan Sarkis.

Wael Morcos is a graphic designer and type designer from Beirut, Lebanon. Upon receiving his BA in Graphic Design from Notre Dame University (Lebanon), he spent three years developing identities and Arabic-Latin bilingual typefaces, in addition to working in print and exhibition design. Wael received his MFA from RISD in 2013, after which he moved to New York and worked with several studios in the city before founding Morcos Key. Wael has been featured in Print Magazine’s 15 under 30, was named a Young Gun by the Art Directors Club and an Ascender by the Type Directors Club.
