Sept 27 • Panel Talk with Middle East Archive
Join us for a panel discussion with photographers Dean Majd and Farah Al-Qasimi as they explore their journeys in photography, touching on themes of identity and the process of finding one’s voice.
Farah Al-Qasimi, Emirati/Lebanese and New York based, builds a world in which images transcend borders and decorative interiors explore notions of identity, technology, colonialism, and taste. Working primarily with photography, video, and performance, she examines postcolonial structures of power, gender and aesthetics in the Gulf Arab states, embedding social critique in her close observations of the environments she engages with.
Dean Majd is a self-taught lens-based artist from Queens, New York, with Palestinian roots. His work often focuses on the Arab-American diaspora, using photography as a means to solidify the truth of existence and to reveal the complex realities of the Palestinian struggle. Through projects such as Hard Feelings and Press the line, Dean explores the nuances of masculinity, foregrounding trauma, mental health, and the tenderness of human relationships.
This event will provide a space for Dean and Farah to share their experiences and insights into their work. The talk will be followed by a Q&A session.
